Applications for the Loan Scholarship will be open every year from December/January onwards till mid-March.
Applicants must be Indians, not older than 45 years as on 30th June, 2022 and graduates of a recognised Indian University with at least 60% marks on average in their undergraduate or post-graduate studies.

Yes, you may apply even if you do not have confirmed admission/offer letters from the universities to which you have applied for the academic year 2022-2023. However, you must update the application status with the Endowment once your admission is secured, by sending an appropriate email to firstname.lastname@example.org
The scholarship is offered at a simple interest of 2% per annum. However, Trustees may waive the interest if candidates repaid the loan by the end of seventh year. The repayment schedule is in five equal installments of 20% between the 3rd and 7th year.
The amount awarded as the loan scholarship ranges between Rs.1,00,000/- and Rs.10,00,000/-. All applicants do not necessarily qualify for the maximum amount.
Yes, there is a travel grant and a Gift award. The selected scholars may also be recommended for a partial travel assistance - a maximum of Rs.50,000/- and gift award from our allied Trusts as may be decided at the sole discretion of the Trustees of the concerned Trusts. The gift award ranges between Rs.2,00,000/- and Rs.7,50,000/- and depends on the academic performance of the candidates in the course for which they are awarded the JN Tata loan scholarship. The gift award will be considered only for those who submit the relevant academic performance proof such as a transcript and progress report.
We do not insist on any collateral but applicants must have a guarantor. This is mandatory.

Yes, Candidates have to create a login ID and password to be able to apply. Please note that you may create only one Login ID using your email ID. You may directly complete the application form online in one visit or more than one visit but you must remember to save the draft before you exit each time. You may preview the application before submitting it.
Statement of Purpose (SoP): The most important point to note is that the Statement of Purpose is NOT a Personal Statement, which means that candidates must not make too many biographical references. What has to come through clearly is why you have made a certain academic choice.
The SoP, specifically addressed to the “Trustees of the J N Tata Endowment”, is an academic document in candidates’ own words, between 500 and 800. The points around which the SOP could be written are available with the application form.
Yes, we need only one LoR which can be written by a Professor of the college or university where the candidate is studying OR the Employer, in case the candidate is / was working. The LoR should be addressed to “The Trustees of the J. N. Tata Endowment”. LoR has to be submitted online by the recommender; instructions for candidates & recommenders are available with application form.
Referee is an individual who knows the candidate in a personal capacity and who can be contacted to find out more about the candidate. This information backs up what you have mentioned in your application.
Only the SoP and LoR. Scanned copies of all other required documents need to be submitted at the time of the interview.
Yes, you can update the status with the Endowment through an email.
Candidates will know the status of their application on each level. The status of the application form communicated appropriately through an email between March and June.
Following are 3 levels involves in the application screening :-
First level – candidate are shortlisted for an online test
Second level – candidates are shortlisted for the interview
Third level – JN Tata scholars selected based on performance at the interview
No, the online test is based on the lines of Thinking Skills Assessment (TSA). This is not a subject-specific test and contains some numerical questions too but does not presume anything more than knowledge of arithmetic and does not involve difficult calculations.
The interviews are held between April and June.
The candidates are not reimbursed for their travel and accommodation for the scholarship interviews. Candidates also have an option to take the video conference interview via Skype/Microsoft Teams/Zoom.
